Idaho County Criminal History Checks
No official search combines every Idaho County criminal record. The most reliable method follows the event from the agency that made the report to the jail, court, state repository, and correctional system as needed. Start with enough detail to separate people who share a name: full legal name, middle name, former names, approximate age or birth date, event date, and a case or incident number when known.
- Use Idaho iCourt Smart Search for filed state cases. Choose a name or record-number search, filter to Idaho County when possible, and compare the court, filing date, and case details.
- For recent custody, follow the current-inmate link from the Idaho County Sheriff and confirm the result with the jail at 208-983-1123.
- Request the actual incident or arrest report from the agency that wrote it. The Sheriff requires a written request; city and ISP reports stay with those agencies.
- Use a BCI name or fingerprint request for the official fingerprint-supported Idaho repository record. It is distinct from iCourt and county files.
- Check IDOC Resident/Client Search for state prison or felony community-supervision status, then order a certified court copy when authoritative case proof is needed.
| Channel | Best for | Important limit |
|---|---|---|
| iCourt and Clerk | Filed cases, dockets, outcomes, certified copies | Sealed matters and some images are unavailable |
| Sheriff and jail | Deputy reports and current county custody | Written report request; roster is not arrest history |
| ISP BCI | Official Idaho repository check | Depends on fingerprint submissions and reported outcomes |
| IDOC | State custody and felony probation/parole | Does not cover county-jail custody or misdemeanor probation |
No One-Stop Idaho County Record Search
The split among agencies is not needless duplication. Each record answers a different question. A deputy report describes an investigation; a jail booking records a custody episode; a prosecutor selects charges; and the clerk opens a court case only after a filing. BCI then links fingerprint-supported Idaho arrests with dispositions reported by courts and prosecutors. Consequently, an allegation on a roster may differ from the filed information, plea, or judgment.
The official Idaho County homepage shows the courthouse-centered local system.
That central building brings several custodians together, but it does not merge their records or authority.
Official Background Checks in Idaho
The Idaho State Police Bureau of Criminal Identification offers forms, not an instant public conviction portal. A $20 name-based check searches the Idaho fingerprint-supported repository using supplied identifiers. Without a waiver signed within 180 days, BCI limits disclosure to a noncriminal-justice requester of an arrest more than 12 months old when no disposition is present. Name searches can also miss aliases or inaccurate birth dates.
A fingerprint request is the stronger route for reviewing your own Idaho record. In 2026, BCI lists $25 for an Idaho fingerprint check and $37 for an authorized national check. Obtain an FBI fingerprint card from a law-enforcement fingerprint service, have prints taken, then send the signed card, form, and payment to BCI. Call the Idaho County Sheriff first about local print availability; Idaho's published process does not use a local IdentoGO or Fieldprint enrollment center.
The BCI criminal-history explanation describes how the central repository is built.
Its fingerprint basis explains why a local file and a state response can differ without either being the same kind of record.
Idaho County BCI Record Choices
Choose by the question being answered. A name check is less costly and easier to submit, but matching rests on names, birth date, sex, race, and other supplied identifiers. BCI does not notarize that result. Fingerprints tie the search to biometric identity and are best for personal record review or a record challenge. Neither option replaces the Idaho County court file, and the ordinary state product does not cover other states or federal prosecutions.
| Product | Base fee | Scope |
|---|---|---|
| BCI name check | $20 | Idaho fingerprint-supported repository searched by identifiers |
| BCI Idaho fingerprint check | $25 | Fingerprint-linked Idaho history; print service may cost extra |
| Authorized national fingerprint check | $37 | Only through a legally authorized process |
| FBI Identity History Summary | $18 | Subject-only federal identity-history route |

Kinds of Criminal Records
“Criminal record” can refer to documents created at very different stages. Idaho County users get better results by naming the exact item and its custodian.
- Incident or arrest report
- The originating Sheriff, police department, or ISP office records officers, location, narrative, evidence, witnesses, and alleged offenses.
- Booking record
- The Idaho County Jail records intake, custody, fingerprints, photograph, charges received, bond, release, or transfer.
- Court case file
- The Clerk holds the numbered prosecution, including docket events, filed documents, pleas, orders, disposition, sentence, and financial entries.
- BCI criminal history
- BCI organizes fingerprint-supported Idaho arrest cycles and reported outcomes around a person's identity.
- Custody or supervision record
- The county jail covers local detention, IDOC covers state custody and felony supervision, and Court Services handles adult misdemeanor probation.
Warrant records, registry listings, and restricted juvenile or sealed files add still more custodians. “Not online” does not by itself mean sealed.
Idaho County Sheriff Report Requests
Records Clerk Mandee Mignerey, reached at 208-983-1100 extension 2, enters deputies' reports, tracks cases, and sends material to the Prosecutor. The local rule is firm: the Records Division will not release a report before receiving a written request. Call first because the official page lists no dedicated web form, submission email, base copy fee, identification rule, or guaranteed delivery method.
Identify the incident or case number if known, event date and approximate time, location, involved names, exact record, desired format, and whether inspection or copies are sought. Ask for an itemized estimate before copying broad or media-heavy material. Pending cases, juvenile information, sensitive victim details, medical data, protected addresses, and active-investigation content may be withheld or redacted.
The Sheriff's Records Division instructions document the written-request requirement.
Precise facts help the clerk locate an existing record without being asked to create a new analysis.
Idaho County Criminal Records: What They Contain
A BCI response centers on identity and fingerprint-supported arrest cycles, while a court file centers on one prosecution and a jail file on one custody episode. Read a field in that context.
| Name & Identifiers | Legal name, aliases, date of birth, demographics, state identification number, and sometimes FBI or transaction identifiers. |
|---|---|
| Arrest / Booking Data | Arrest date and agency, intake details, custody reason, booking image, bond, and release or transfer where that system publishes them. |
| Charges & Statutes | Alleged arrest charges, filed counts, statutory references, and amended or dismissed counts must be read separately. |
| Disposition | Pending, dismissal, acquittal, conviction, or withheld judgment describes an outcome or status, not merely the original allegation. |
| Sentence | Jail or prison term, probation, fines, restitution, and concurrent or consecutive terms may appear in court and correctional records. |
| Custody / Supervision Status | County jail, IDOC custody, felony probation/parole, and misdemeanor probation reside in different systems. |
Idaho County's 1902 Criminal Records Hub
The Idaho County Courthouse at 320 West Main Street in Grangeville dates to 1902, the year the county seat moved there. Today it places the District Court counter, Clerk/Auditor Kathy Ackerman, Sheriff, jail, and County Court Services at one address. Court hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Pacific. The court is 208-983-2776; the clerk is 208-983-2751.

Charging office; not a public case-record counter
The Sheriff cannot release the clerk's case file, and the clerk cannot substitute for an investigative report. The Sheriff's official contact page identifies the local command and regional access points.
The shared courthouse address makes the distinction between custodians easier to resolve in person.
Idaho Public Access Laws
The Idaho Public Records Act begins with access but preserves specific exemptions. Ask the office that created or keeps the record, and request an identifiable existing document. Agencies do not have to write answers, reveal protected investigative material, or expose juvenile and sensitive personal data. A typical response is due within three working days or gives notice that up to ten working days is needed.
Key statutes and rules:
Idaho Code §74-102 - public records are open unless a legal exemption applies.
Idaho Code §74-103 - permits examination and copying, lawful fees, and the response timetable.
Idaho Code §67-3008 - controls BCI criminal-history dissemination.
Idaho Court Administrative Rule 32 - governs public and confidential court information.
Idaho Code §67-3004(10) - provides a written route to expunge certain arrest and fingerprint records.
Idaho County Custody Record Sources
These three custody channels are complementary. The Idaho County current-inmate page is a manually published list, not a searchable arrest database. It can show an image, name, compact custody reason, and total bond or “None,” but omits booking time, arresting agency, statute, case number, court date, and release date. Call the jail before relying on it, especially after a recent release or transfer.
IDOC Resident/Client Search is for state custody and felony probation or parole. IDOC says its data updates daily, yet status can change faster. VINE provides release and transfer notifications rather than a full supervision record. For misdemeanor probation, call Idaho County Court Services; no public county lookup exists.
The official IDOC search form identifies its statewide custody and supervision scope.
A match there answers a different status question than a name on the Idaho County jail list.
Idaho County Warrant Record Checks
Idaho County publishes no complete active-warrant database, most-wanted page, or special public warrant line. Labels such as Bench Warrant, Agent's Warrant, or Failure to Appear on the inmate list describe people already in custody and are not a warrant search. To check your own possible warrant, contact Sheriff dispatch, submit a written Records Division request, search iCourt, and ask the District or Magistrate clerk at 208-983-2776 for public docket information.
Confirm the full name, case number, issuing court, charge, bond, and current status before acting. An IDOC agent's warrant may involve District 2 Community Corrections at 208-799-5030. Juvenile, sealed, unserved, or investigative information can remain unavailable, so yesterday's web result does not prove that a warrant is cleared.
Restricted, Sealed & Expunged Records
Idaho uses several forms of relief that should not be treated as synonyms. Redaction removes protected fields from an otherwise public document. Sealing restricts access. BCI expungement removes a qualifying arrest or fingerprint event from the repository. A withheld judgment or dismissal under Idaho Code §19-2604 can provide relief but does not automatically erase every court, agency, or private copy.
Under §67-3004(10), a written BCI expungement request can apply when an arrest or criminal summons was not followed by an indictment or information within one year, the person was acquitted of every related offense, or all charges were dismissed. The package needs event information and supporting charging and certified outcome documents. BCI says to allow 30 days. Idaho's newer Clean Slate route instead shields an eligible case from public disclosure after statutory conditions are met; authorized justice users retain access.
Note: A dismissed charge can remain visible until the correct statutory relief is granted and each relevant source is checked again.
Idaho County Supervision Records
Idaho County Court Services supervises adult misdemeanants and juveniles from Room 28 at the courthouse. Felony probation and parole belong to IDOC District 2 Community Corrections in Lewiston. Use iCourt to read the sentencing order, IDOC search for felony community status, and the county office for misdemeanor supervision. VINE does not report every supervision change.
The County Court Services page identifies the local probation office.
Its county role ends where felony field supervision by IDOC District 2 begins.
Parole decisions are separate again. The Idaho Commission of Pardons and Parole controls parole release decisions while IDOC carries out field supervision.
A pardon is clemency and adds to the record; the Commission warns that it does not erase the crime.
Idaho County Crash Record Requests
The Idaho County Sheriff no longer supplies accident reports. Use the Idaho Transportation Department crash-report channel, which lists a $7 charge plus transaction fee. A request typically needs the crash date, location, driver or vehicle information, and a report identifier when known. Keep this document distinct from an officer's broader incident narrative, a jail booking, or a later court file.
Body-camera, 911, CAD, photograph, and video requests still require a precise event, date, time, and location, and can involve redaction or media costs. For Sheriff material, follow the written-request rule. For a Grangeville, Cottonwood, Kamiah-contract, or ISP event, contact the agency that made the record.
Ask whether inspection is available before ordering copies, and request a cost estimate when video review or special processing may add staff time.
Idaho County Charging Records and Drug Court
The Idaho County Prosecuting Attorney at 416 West Main Street reviews investigations and decides what charges to file or dismiss. Its office prosecutes felonies and qualifying misdemeanors and infractions, and it highlights Idaho County Drug Court. The prosecutor is not the public case-record counter: after filing, the clerk and iCourt are the proper sources for the docket and judgment.
The Prosecuting Attorney's official page explains the office and local Drug Court role.
That division of work explains why a deputy's initial allegation may not match the final filed charge or outcome.
Federal prosecutions are another layer. The U.S. District Court for the District of Idaho is authoritative for federal cases, which do not become state iCourt prosecutions merely because conduct occurred in Idaho County.
PACER and the federal clerk, not Idaho County's state court counter, provide those federal case records.
City-by-City Criminal Records in Idaho County
City names do not always identify the custodian. Grangeville Police keeps its reports, while its filed criminal matters route through Idaho County's Magistrate Division and iCourt. Kamiah straddles Idaho and Lewis counties and contracts with Lewis County Sheriff, so the event location and arresting agency control. Cottonwood has a police department but no verified city case portal; call City Hall for the current report procedure and use the county court channels for filed cases.
